New Plan- February 28
Note: This post was orignially meant to posted earlier in the week. However, I, the group blog admin, accidently saved it as a draft instead of publishing it. This post was actualluy dated February 28.
We were discussing our lab during school , and we realized something important. The original silly putty experiment only tested whether or not silly putty was polar or non polar. After a pause, we realized this was a poor experiment.
After some research and discussion, we have come up with a second, better experiment. The experimental procedure is as follows.
Celery and Water: An Experiment
Materials: 25 stalks of celery, 5 volumetric flasks, 4 hot plates, food coloring, thermometer, labquest.
Get 5 containers of the same dimensions and material
Fill each container with water, then dye the water with food coloring
Place one in the room normally, and 4 on hotplates at different temperatures.
get a thermometer (labquest)
Record the initial temperature of each cup of water until they stabilize.
Place 5 stalks of celery in each container.
Wait 1 hour.
Take out each celery and perform a cross section of each stalk to see how far up the colored water has traveled.
Record this data.
Indepenedent variable: Temperature of the water in each container.
Dependent variable: How far up the stalks the water has traveled.
Control: The celery that are at room temperature.
Hypothesis: Heating up the water of the celery containers will speed up the diffusion process.
